On: Friday, 02 Feb 2024
Venue: Away

The 1st VII Hockey Team travelled the long journey to Cheltenham College where they took on the U13 IAPS Regional Qualifier. The boys faced a tuff pool group consisting of The Dragon, Cheltenham College Prep, Beachborough and Bromsgrove. The first game of the tournament saw them take on local rivals; The Dragon. The boys put on a strong performance, beating them 3-0. (Goals: O. Mayer x3). A dream start! Next up was Cheltenham College Prep. A team we knew would be good but one that we could beat. Unfortunately this wasn't meant to be, losing 0-3 but spirits were still high. A draw against Beachborough and a loss against Bromsgrove saw us sitting comfortably in 3rd place and heading into the Plate Competition.

After a long lunch, and a few tired boys, All Hallows School were waiting for us in the quarter-final game. An outstanding performance saw the team win 5-1, with some cracking hockey on display. This set us up for a strong run to the end with a win in the semi-final against The Down's School. The boys put on a nerve wracking performance, but ultimately crossing the finish line in 1st place. The final was here was upon us!

Moulsford vs Cothill, the final of the Plate Competition. Two extremely excited coaches wanting to get their "hands" on some silverware for the first time! Having gone 1-0 up at half time (Goal from O. Mayer) raised the intensity within the team. The second half was underway after a passionate team talk from Mr Jones and Mr Corbett. Suddenly, the score went to 3-0 with O. Whale scoring two quick back-to-back goals after some lovely passing from the back to set him up. The final hooter went and that was that. Moulsford had won the Plate Final!!!

The boys showed great resilience and determination to secure the win. Mr Jones and Mr Corbett are both extremely proud of the boys' efforts and achievements throughout the day.

A special thank you to the parents of the boys who came in force to support them.

We look ahead to the upcoming season where the 1st VII take on various schools including the Stowe Tournament and a local derby with Cranford towards the end of the season.

Best Wishes,

Mr Corbett
