The Training Is Paying Off…….
Our journey to Amersham today proved to be an eventful one, with two exhilarating encounters against Gayhurst and Beacon. The first game saw the other two schools play with Gayhurst and Beacon drawing 2-2 in an end to end game.
Gayhurst vs. Moulsford
Our first match against Gayhurst saw us dominating possession and creating numerous opportunities. Despite hitting the bar and having a goal cleared off the line thanks to Hannigan's tenacity, we couldn't quite break the deadlock. The match showcased our ability to construct beautiful passages of play from the back, with Houghton and Bull initiating several incisive attacks from deep. Although Morris was called into action with a stunning diving save, Gayhurst managed to capitalise on a counterattack, taking the lead late in the game. But, just when it seemed all hope was lost, Warren's intelligent pass found Houlihan-Smith, who clinically finished to salvage a hard-earned draw. While the result may have been disappointing given our dominance, it's a testament to the unpredictable nature of football and our relentless attacking play!
Beacon vs. Moulsford
Our second match against Beacon was a chance for redemption after our previous heavy defeat (8-1). From the outset, the boys exhibited a remarkable determination, defending resolutely and pressing relentlessly. Despite numerous chances hitting the woodwork in the first half, we remained disciplined and organised, heading into halftime with the score level. As the game progressed, our confidence soared, and our meticulous build-up play paid dividends. We’ve been working hard on the short goal-kick routine and this set-play proved fruitful as we found the wide areas and space time after time. In the 14th minute, Warren's skillful dribble rattled the post, only for Hannigan to pounce on the rebound and break the deadlock. Moments later, Morris, who had ventured outfield, delivered a pinpoint cross, resulting in Carter's emphatic finish and an ecstatic Ronaldo-esque celebration. Although Beacon managed to pull one back, we remained in control, showcasing our newfound resilience and composure. It was a magnificent performance, and I couldn't be prouder of the boys' progress and dedication this term. It was nice to have Bull today who has come up from the C team. His strong performances have resulted in the call up. It was between him and Houghton for Man of the Match but Arthur just scooped it with his clever tackling, good movement wide and for looking up when out wide before moving the ball.
In conclusion, today's matches were a testament to the team's unwavering spirit and determination to improve. Despite facing formidable opponents, we showcased our ability to play attractive football and control the game's tempo. With continued dedication to honing our technical skills and tactical understanding, I have no doubt that we'll continue to go from strength to strength. Bring on Pinewood and the OPS – we're ready for whatever challenges lie ahead!
