For the first time, the Colts A VII entered the U11 Oxfordshire Schools County Cup which was held at Oxford Hawks Hockey Club. It was the first outing for this group of boys where they put in incredible effort throughout the day. The team faced a tough round robin group consisting of MCS, New College and Abingdon Prep School. On a wet afternoon, the first fixture was upon us and we took on MCS. After a nervous start and going down 3-0, the team's heads dropped. After a passionate team talk from Mr Corbett at half time, the boys showed a much better performance in the second half. Back-to-back games saw us take on New College in our second match. We knew they would be a tough opposition. As we put the ball into the back of the net we went 1-0 up at the break. After two shuffles missed from Moulsford, we suddenly saw ourself in 2nd place as New College scored two late goals, snatching the win 2-1. The team looked to bounce back from a nervous first two games, as they took to their final game facing local rivals Abingdon Prep School. After being told by their coach, Mr Corbett, 'don't be so nice' the boys battled hard and came away with their first win of the season 3-1.
Everybody involved in the afternoon put in outstanding effort. This team has some great potential, so we look ahead to the upcoming season with more tournaments including the U11 IAPS @ Tilley park and The Stowe Tournament.
A large thanks go to the parents of the boys who came and supported them during the afternoon.
Have a great Half term!
Mr Corbett
