Moulsford Prep Under 9B Clinches Victory in Hard-Fought Battle Against Abingdon Under 8A

In a thrilling showdown at the Josca's Playing Fields, Moulsford Prep Under 9B emerged triumphant with a 3-2 win over the talented Abingdon Under 8A side. Despite facing challenges with the absence of Heathcoat Amory, our valiant squad of five merry men – Carter (c), Houghton, Morris, Warren, and Hannigan – rose admirably to the occasion, showcasing their prowess on the field.

The match unfolded with Abingdon initially seizing the initiative, demonstrating their skill as Moulsford sought to find their shape within our 1-2-1 formation. The early exchanges saw both teams come close to breaking the deadlock, with Abingdon rattling the bar and us responding with a spirited effort from Hannigan.

However, it was our incredible goalkeeper, Morris, who truly shone, making three remarkable saves to keep us in the game. Without his heroics, we could have found ourselves trailing by halftime. Those there were comparing him to Vicario as he commanded his areas and was cat-like when saving the ball. Late in the first half, the breakthrough came as Warren capitalised on a squared ball from Houghton, slotting home to ignite the cheers of our loyal supporters.

The momentum carried into the second half, with Hannigan extending our lead to 2-0 with a thunderous strike from just inside the box, courtesy of a well-placed kick from our keeper that bounced over the defenders head and into his path! Despite Abingdon's resurgence, led by their captain, Carter's tenacious defending and crucial interceptions thwarted their attacks.

Warren sealed the victory with another well-crafted team move, calmly finishing past the onrushing keeper, orchestrated by the dynamic duo of Hannigan and Warren. Though Abingdon managed to claw back with two late goals, our resilient defence held firm, securing the win for Moulsford.

As we reflect on this hard-fought victory, there are many positives to take, yet areas for improvement remain, particularly in our finishing. Nevertheless, with unwavering determination, we will address these challenges in the coming weeks, with our focus on shooting in the week 5 plans.

Looking ahead, we brace ourselves for the fiery encounter against Mr. Springer's Dragon Prep next week. With the spirit of St. George coursing through our veins, we aim to slay the dragon before the end of half term!!!

Finally, a heartfelt thank you to our devoted fans whose unwavering support bolstered our spirits and spurred us on to victory. Your presence on the sidelines fuels our passion for the game, and we are immensely grateful for your continued encouragement.
